Overview
Native people make up a significant number of Peru's population, mainly because many of them have survived Spanish race-mixing by living in rural or mountainous regions. Peru also has a large number of people, nearly 10%, that do not speak Spanish due to the secludedness of many indigenous linguistic groups. Basically, Peru has a strong and alive indigenous culture, much like its neighbor Bolivia. Nevertheless, natives have been incorporated more and more into modern Latin American society due to economic development.
How do we choose between preserving indigenous culture and developing indigenous communities?
A prime example of this is the horror film, Green Inferno, which used actual Peruvian natives in the film. Obviously the film sensationalizes and fantasizes native practice to make a thrilling movie, thus, should they use actual natives to misrepresent an already disrespected group of people?
