Overview
The Shinning Path is a Maoist rebel group that operate in Peru. The school of thought deemed Maoism is purported to emphasize the rural working class over the oppressive bourgeois of the cities. This armed resistance began in the 1980's and was most active until 1992 when the leader of the Shinning Path was captured. The Shinning Path has been labeled as a terrorist organization by the West and Peru due to its use of brutal violence against citizens and political leaders. Although there has been a major decline in the centralized Shinning Path movement, many splinter Shinning Path groups continue to resist the Peruvian government. However, it is important to note that many former-members of the Shinning Path have transitioned into political leaders in the Peruvian Communist Party, which is an integrated party of the Peruvian political system.
